New units open in Swansea

A NEW social housing project designed for regional areas has been delivered in Swansea. Demand for stable and affordable housing is not confined to the major population centres which is why Homes Tasmania’s Community Housing Growth Program is delivering new social housing in 24 local government areas.

Centacare Evolve Housing recently completed construction of six twobedroom units in Swansea which were allocated to elderly applicants on the Housing Register.

“It was great to meet some of the residents of the new units – Matthew and Kylie, and Greg and Janet – and hear how their new homes have improved their quality of life,” Construction Minister Guy Barnett said.

“Accessibility is particularly important for people as they age, which is why all units have been built to the Silver Level of the Liveable Housing Design Guidelines.

“This development is just one of numerous projects Centacare Evolve is currently building, with hundreds in its construction pipeline across the state. It shows that the Tasmanian Government’s social housing construction program is working.

“We are delivering on our target for 1500 social and affordable homes and units by June 2023, and we are well on track with 735 completed as at December 31, 2022.’’
