LARC leaders stand for regions

NORTH West Tassie leaders are stepping up for the region and are engaged in diverse pursuits. Cycle tourism, a skills bank, mental health support, agriculture planning and leadership training for elected councillors are among the priorities led by local leaders in the state’s north-west.

Twenty leaders recently graduated from the Leading Australian Resilient Communities (LARC) capacity building program held in
the region. Kate Mauric, Helen Thomas and Tara Clark from King Island participated in the recent LARC leadership training program.

The objective of the program, delivered by Tasmanian Leaders in partnership with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) and Regional Australia Institute (RAI), is to bring together current and emerging leaders across the region to further develop their leadership skills and build a network that’s committed to action and outcomes.

It included a combination of place-based multi-day leadership sessions to identify challenges, opportunities and what underpins them using the latest RAI data for the region.

The sessions included coaching and support for practical, community led projects they wanted to pursue, and the local leaders presented their community projects at a recent graduation ceremony.

“The projects address a range of challenges, and opportunities, in this region,” Tasmanian Leaders CEO, Angelia Driver, said.

Following graduation, Founding Director Positivity with Purpose Tara Clark said,” LARC is an excellent opportunity to connect with other like-minded leaders in the region, and workshop creative options to improve our local areas.

Growth & Strategy Manager King Island Council Helen Thomas agreed and endorsed the LARC program, “LARC is an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively with others in your region who are passionate about your region.”
