THE patience of Tunbridge residents who have waited for three years to have the historic Blackman River Bridge repaired has finally worn out.
Save Our Bridge signs have been erected all over the tiny village and local and state government lobbying, led by local resident Jason “Possum” Farrelly, is ramping up.
A new Save Our Bridge Facebook group has attracted more than 500 members and thousands of reactions in its first week online and a rally will be held at the bridge on Sunday, March 5 at 11am.
The bridge at the northern end of town, the oldest single span bridge in Australia, was found to be unsafe after it was damaged by fire in 2019.
With only one way in and out of the village, it’s not just the inconvenience annoying locals, but the potential fire risk.
“The town is fed up, we just want answers,” Mr Farrelly said.
