THE sixth Air Adventure Golf Essendon Fields Classic last weekend raised $33,124 at the auction fundraiser and event for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The tournament has raised more than $135,000 for the fundation since its inception.
More than 60 golfers played the Ocean Dunes and Cape Wickham courses. The weekend event included an auction curated by David Munday, held at the King Island Hotel, and supported by King Island businesses, producers, airlines and artists who donated goods to be auctioned. This year’s auction and raffles exceeded last year’s auction total of $27000.
Cataraqui Angus donated an additional $3625, equivalent to half the ‘King Island Mega Package’ final bid price of $7250 to Make- a- Wish. The mega package included flights, golf, accommodation, car hire, a catered dinner, Brewhouse voucher, bottle of spirits, art, crayfish and Porterhouse pack for four.
As part of the weekend, a painting of Cape Wickham was auctioned to raise money for the Foundation.
The painting is by Ross Perrett (father of Air Adventure’s Golf Manager, Jon Perrett) and for 25 years Ross Perrett designed over 100 golf courses around the world with his business partner, Peter Thomson.
However, five years ago Ross experienced a stroke and can no longer play the game he enjoys so much. After losing feeling in his right side, he has taught himself to paint left-handed and created this painting to help raise money for critically ill children. The winning bid was $4500.
In March, Air Adventure Golf Tours won Gold in the Tasmanian Tourism Awards and this week represented Tasmania in Sydney at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards and took out bronze for the Tour and Transport category.
