Festival site for sale

ANY hopes the popular Falls Festival will return to Marion Bay are all but gone, with the company behind the event putting the land on the market.

It’s been years since the last Falls Festival, a victim of Covid restrictions. The event which ran for 17 years was a rite of passage for young Tasmanians and news it is unlikely to return to the state will disappoint music lovers.

Over nearly two decades the Falls Festival attracted international acts including Halsey, Childish Gambino and Kings of Leon, as well as local bands such as Luca Brasi, providing a tourism boost for the state and countless memories.

While the 273-hectare property includes some beautiful protected bushland, there are about 183 hectares of useable farmland with a character homestead. The site also includes remaining infrastructure from the Falls Festival including a full-size stage, sheds and shelters.

“The property provides a truly unique opportunity for an array of potential buyers ranging from those seeking to live in one of the cleanest environments on earth, to entrepreneurs, viticulturists and farmers with Bream Creek being a popular farming locality,’’ a spokesperson associated with the sale said.

“The property sits within minutes of Dunalley with its essential shops, services and school and under half an hour of leisurely travel to the major shopping hub of Sorell.’’

It is described as having unmatched ocean and coastal views. The land sits alongside a property owned by MONA founder David Walsh.

The site is for sale through Harcourts Signature in conjunction with Nutrien Harcourts.

In 2021, the company behind the three-day event, Secret Sounds, announced it was cancelling Marion Bay and Lorne events. Since then it has been held at Pennyroyal Plains in Murroon Victoria.

The event was a huge tourist drawcard for the South East of Tasmania, with economic activity in the region dramatically rising as visitors flocked to the area.
