NEW Norfolk under-12 touch rugby players competed for the Junior State Cup at Prospect Park Launceston. With a three-match draw, winner takes all. The girls managed to open round one with a win scoring nine tries to one.
Round 2 the girls to maintain momentum scoring 10 tries to nil.
With one final game, the top two teams went head-to-head to claim the honour of state junior champs.
The New Norfolk girls managed to open the first half with five tries to nil and then finishing a final score of 9-0.
“They have been training really hard to develop speed, foot work, ball skills and fitness over the last 12 weeks and they were well rewarded claiming the Junior State Cup,’’ a club spokesperson said.
Next weekend they play in the Southern Tasmania Touch Grand Final at Wentworth Park where they are hoping to complete the double.
