DR HAZEL McTavish-West and her team from Seedlab Tasmania and Seedlab Sisters visited King Island and conducted two sessional workshops over two days.
The purpose was to introduce the Seedlab programs and Bootcamps to startups and established businesses on King Island. Seedlab provides a structured program through online sessions, workshops and networking which, according to their “Saying it Simply” spiel, “Makes dreams real for people who have a passion and a purpose to create a job and an income for their families doing what they love.”
Seedlab works with people from many different backgrounds, who may be working in many different jobs, careers or professions – but have never worked in the area of their passion or wish to take their business to the next level.
Seedlabs assists with the startup and guides in the elements that need to be covered to get a business off the ground. It also assists the business which is up and running, and identifies the gaps whether that be costing and pricing, branding, logistics, packaging, target markets and similar and links with trusted experts.
Dr McTavish-West said: “The program we have and the people that we work with it help people gain confidence in what they’re doing and by drilling down into what is unique.” The organisation runs three programs starting with the Incubator Program – a six-week program, run live online via zoom. It’s all the things to think about to make a business successful.
The Seedlab Sisters Boot Camp intensive programs start in September. There’s information to watch in advance and to prepare for and activities are group-based and interactive. Mentoring and coaching continues as a business or entrepreneurial project develops. Seedlabs is funded through the Department of Communities and from the Cradle Coast Authority and the programs are free.
Sarah and Corey Brazendale, owners of King Island Brewhouse did the program about 18 months ago and are open to questions and available to talk about their experience and benefits. To apply for the program online go to Seedlab.tasmania.com.au
