RSL issues Anzac invitation

THE King Island RSL Sub branch invites veterans and the community to join with us on the 107th Anniversary of the first Anzac Day Ceremony, on Tuesday, April 25.

During our two services we will be commemorating our Vietnam veterans, the families who often suffer in silence and endure life-long pain, and a true story about the early years of a post-World War 2 King Island Soldier Settler family.

For the Dawn Service at the Cenotaph, on the corner of George and Meech Streets, please assemble by 5.55 am for a 6 am commencement. Veterans are asked to assemble near the old Service Tas building and step off at 5.55 am, led by our guest speaker Ryan Cooke, late of the Royal Australian Regiment.

You are welcome to bring fold up chairs and the service will be followed by a hot drink in the RSL club rooms. For those who have paid for the breakfast at the Post Office please arrive at the King Island Club between 7 and 7.30 am.

Bookings are still open for the buffet breakfast, but are limited to 50 people, so please do not leave it until the last minute.

Cost is $10 per person or $20 for parents and two children under 10. The form-up for the Morning Service March is in Main Street, outside IGA. Please assemble by 10.10 am for a 10.20 am step off. Veterans, soldier settler descendants, emergency service members, school children, and members of the community are invited to march. The main service at the Cenotaph will start at 10.30 am.

Some seating will be available for senior members of our community and the wreath layers. Even though Anzac Day falls during the school holidays, the Sub Branch is pleased that students will be taking part in the Main Service, with the strong support of school staff and parents.

Your support of our Anzac stall in the Post Office foyer today and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm would be appreciated in support of our veterans and families. As always, president Tom will be tossing two coins in the King Island Club during the afternoon of Anzac Day.
