SIAN Tiangco became an Australian Citizen last Saturday. A Registered Nurse and working at the King Island Hospital, Sian was born in the Philippines and decided to try his luck for a better future in Australia.
He said that prior to moving to Australia he had heard so many good things, how diverse the people were and that there were a lot of opportunities available. Sian arrived in Australia in April 2018 and lived in Melbourne for a couple of months.
A position for a Registered Nurse at the King Island Hospital was advertised and he applied. “I was fortunate enough to get the job and then I moved to King Island. I immediately felt a sense of community and I knew that I was in the right place. The rest is history.”
The Federal Government on December 16, 2022, announced changes to the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code to give Australian councils the option to host its ceremonies three days either side of Australia Day, instead of on the day itself.
“Today I become an Australian citizen and am beyond blessed and grateful,” Sian said. “I’ve now lived on King Island for more than four years with my wife, Jo-Ann, and we really can’t think of anywhere else we want to be,” Sian said after becoming an Australian citizen.
“For us, King Island is home and we’re proud to serve our community.”
