AN outstanding coup for King Island, Australian Leo of the Year 2022, Leada Blackie, has been awarded the prestigious title of “International Leo of the Year”.
The exciting news came from Lions International Headquarters in US city Chicago.
A medal and certificate are due to arrive in Australia later in May and Lions Tasmania hopes to be able to present them to Leada at an appropri- ately significant event.
Only one nominee from each Con- stitutional Area (country or group of countries) is accepted for the award each year, based on the following criteria:
• demonstrated outstanding lead- ership skills by holding Leo officer positions;
• achieved a superior record as a Leo in implementing successful ser- vice projects;
• made an identifiable contribution to the development and growth of the Leo Club program by recruitment of four Leo members; and
achieved distinction in community or school activities outside of Leo club commitments.
In her application, Leada told how the Leo Club Program had equipped her with an abundance of transferable attributes that align with the organ- isation’s core values of Leadership, Experience and Opportunity.
“The LCP has undoubtedly prepared me well for my role as an officer in the Australian Defence Force,” she said.
Leada is currently studying an Arts degree in Canberra and is looking forward to some family time on King Island in April.
The Lions Club extended its congratulations to Leada and is extremely proud to have supported her through the Leo program.
Leo Clubs are a youth organiza- tion of Lions Clubs International. The word L. E. O. stands for Leadership, Experience, Opportunity. The Leo club objective is to “…to provide the youth of the world (with) an opportunity for development, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.”
