Koonya aims to get the recipe right

THE Koonya Garlic Festival is almost here! An annual event that celebrates the local garlic industry and the delicious flavours it brings to the community.

This year’s festival is on Saturday, February 25, and will once again feature a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages. With more than 70 stalls, this is shaping up to be the biggest festival yet. It has been gaining popularity over the years and after the incredible turnout last year we are forecasting we will have another 3500 visitors, so please book your tickets as soon as you can.

There will be lots of volunteers on the gate scanning those tickets in the hope we won’t have a repeat of the lines last year. There will also be gate sales but the quickest way in this year is to buy online.

How is your garlic looking? Judges wait in anticipation to taste the product of your hard work after yet another La Nina episode!

So, if you have avoided the rust and the rot, don’t forget to enter those elephant garlics and perfect your beautiful plaits. We have some fantastic prizes available thanks to our generous local sponsors. The day will be a mix of fun for all ages with our very popular kids’ activity tent making another appearance. In the tent will be face painting, playdough and games to keep you and your children entertained in between masterclasses and a refreshing brew from one of our four coffee vendors.

This festival is run solely by volunteer efforts and we really need your help. We need two hours of your time, more if you are willing, and in exchange you will receive entry to the festival and that fuzzy feeling that comes from helping out the local community.

We need assistance packing down Saturday afternoon and Sunday, working on the gates, collecting compost, parking cars and picking up rubbish.

If you are interested in volunteering at the festival please get in contact koonyagarlicfestival1@gmail.com
