Funding splash adds to facilities at popular pool complex

THE swimming season might be over and out but there was plenty to celebrate when the Northern Midlands Council, Lyons MHR Brian Mitchell and Cressy Memorial Swimming Pool committee members officially recognised the $1.557 million redevelopment of the Cressy Memorial Swimming Pool and a highly successful swimming season.

Mayor Mary Knowles acknowledged the work of council officers and the dedication of the Cressy Memorial Swimming Pool Committee for making the pool such a fantastic facility for the Cressy community.

The summer swimming season, which included lap swimming and a hugely popular Australia Day event, was a resounding success. Work on the pool facility included upgrades to the kiosk, lighting, pool concourse, fencing, signage, shade sails, the entrance and the car park.

Damien Wilson is a contractor who worked on the pool and is also on the pool committee and has children who use the pool regularly. As building and maintenance supervisor for the Northern Midlands Council he worked on the second stage of the project which involved the building of the concrete concourse and fencing.

“When I was a kid my mum worked in the kiosk and while it’s come a long way over the past 30 years the facility still relies on the dedication of volunteers to keep it going,” Mr Wilson said.

Pool committee president Maurita Taylor said that the locals not only came out in droves over summer, but the feedback was extremely positive. “It’s been great for the locals, a real asset for the Cressy and Bracknell schools and with the new barbecue facilities it’s been a real hit for those wanting to hold birthday parties,” she said.
