SATURDAY’S golf attracted 36 players in the stableford multiplier event. A brutal game as both players need to score points or wipe results to zero points even if your partner scores a birdie.
The golf course is starting to grow grass rapidly, a mowing crew is getting stuck in cleaning up the rough and fairways starting to look perfect. The weather couldn’t be better – heaps of rain, followed by calm sunny days. A little bit of luck and the soon to be played King Island Open will be fantastic.
The results for this week saw the old codgers win the day. Jim Tiger Cooper and Johnny Cakes Mauric fell in by one point 69 points. The team worked beautifully well Jim 35 points John 34 points as individual scores.
Runnersup on 68 points , Chris Richards and James Jakowenko. The next best was a distant third placed veterans Jerry Noble and Tony Scrivenor 63 points. Nearest the pin 3/12 James Jakowenko 18th Nathan Melville Money Hole Tim Barnes Tim won the money hole on the par 5 4th/13th hole with an eagle – great effort.
Some other good individual scores – Tim Barnes 39 , Adam Hely and Sam Woolley 38 points and Gerry Noble 35 points along with Beau Keys and Jigs Denby.
The King Island Open is only a couple of weeks away, so get your entries in this week.
The clubhouse renovations are nearing completion and with the painting complete and the floor being sanded back it all looks spectacular. A little bit of luck and your correspondent hates to say this, “Please don’t rain too much, we need to mow the fairways twice a week now.”
A point of interest – visiting golfers are arriving in increasing numbers, playing all courses, adding great value to our King Island economy and community.
Incidentally the weather caused chaos for plane arrivals last Friday and Saturday which is a little disappointing, but we are lucky that there was no flooding. Next event is a single stableford event sponsored by Cape Wickham Links.
